Whether we are listening to music, watching TV or playing computer games, music is everywhere. Some people enjoy making music, whether singing or playing, while others simply enjoy listening to it. But however we use music, it plays a big part in our lives. Similarly, at d’Overbroeck’s, music plays a big part in the life of the Sixth Form with a wide range of performing opportunities available to all; from The Sixth Form Winter Concert to the Annual School production, which, every two years is a musical.

Performing opportunities

d’Overbroeck’s boasts a range of concerts and musical events throughout the academic year. For example:

Whole school musicals. Recent productions include: Legally Blonde (2018), The Wizard of Oz (2015), Les Misérables (2013) ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ (2011).

Opera and operetta productions. In the past we have performed: Pirates of Penzance (2015), The Magic Flute (2014) and In My Ladye’s Chamber (2012).

Exam recitals. We provide A level students with opportunities to perform their programmes to an invited audience of family and friends prior to the final recording of their exam pieces.

The Instrumental and Vocal Programme

Significant numbers of students at d’Overbroeck’s choose to enrich their school experience through enrolment in the voice and instrument programme. A range of classical orchestral and rock and jazz instruments as well as voice are catered for every week by our team of experienced peripatetic instrumental teachers.

Students may wish to prepare for external practical and theory exams, or learn to play an instrument for enjoyment. They may wish to extend this by joining one of our school instrumental or choral groups.

Any instrumentalist or singer has the opportunity to perform at school concerts and events.
