Co-Curricular programme at d’Overbroeck’s provides students with a chance to experience new opportunities and broaden their education outside the boundaries of the classroom.

AN EXTENSIVE AND FLEXIBLE PROGRAMME

Much like our academic programme, our co-curricular programme is founded on the values of choice, engagement and enjoyment. With over 80 co-curricular activities it is important to us that our students can find something that suits them, whilst also being encouraged to ‘have a go’, no matter what their ability level. The vast majority of these co-curricular activities are provided at no extra cost.

DRAMA

Drama at d’Overbroeck’s is about much more than learning lines and performing: it is also about unleashing students’ dramatic creativity. We encourage this by exposing students to many different styles and genres of drama, both scripted and improvised, from mask work to puppetry. We give them considerable ownership of their creative pieces and support them in taking creative and intellectual risks.

MUSIC

Music is one of the busiest departments at d’Overbroeck’s: whether you are interested in pursuing A-Level Music or A-Level Music Technology, whether you wish to take up or continue instrumental tuition, or whether you would just like to involve yourself in the annual school production, compose for fun, or play your instrument regularly in a group of like-minded people, we have something for you!

SPORT

We have a number of sports clubs for our Sixth Form students to participate in. Our teams also regularly compete against other local schools in sports such as football, basketball and netball.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD

Taking the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award at d’Overbroeck’s is a fantastic way for adventurous students to develop through activities and service in the community. Moreover, it is flexible in what students can choose for the volunteering, skills, and physical components, giving them the opportunity to express their individuality. We use an expedition company to ensure all activities are safe, and the DofE is a worthwhile addition to students’ CVs and university applications. All three school sites take part in this fantastic award scheme.

TENNIS ACADEMY

The d’Overbroeck’s Tennis Academy is a dedicated programme designed to support excellent tennis players who wish to develop their tennis career alongside studying their A-Levels and getting all the benefits of a d’Overbroeck’s education. Students receive individual coaching throughout the year from our programme partner, the North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club, located 15 minutes’ walk away from the Sixth Form.

TRIPS & EXCURSIONS

There is a busy programme at d’Overbroeck’s of subject-specific school trips and visits, such as the annual History of Art trip to London, the Psychology trip to the Freud museum, Geography and Biology field trips and the Physics outing to the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories.

There is also an annual History trip, and in recent years, students have found themselves in places as diverse as the USA (Washington and New York), Russia (Moscow and St Petersburg), China (Beijing, Xian and Shanghai), Germany (Berlin) and Poland (Krakow including Auschwitz).

Sometimes we also run school expeditions to destinations much further afield. In recent years these have included visits to Namibia and Zambia.

SOCIAL EVENTS

From the moment you join us for Sixth Form, you will discover that your social life is a busy one, making it very easy for you to meet lots of people and quickly make new friends. Our student mentors are there at the start of the year to help you settle in as quickly and as easily as possible and our social events coordinator, Hannah, will be there right throughout your two years of Sixth Form.

We may be the only Sixth Form in the UK to have a full-time member of staff whose job it is to ensure students are happy and busy. As well as being someone to talk to, Hannah puts on a packed programme of events such as cinema trips, theatre outings, punting, go-karting, fund-raising (including Pyjama Day for Children in Need) and more. She also arranges events such as the Leavers’ Ball, in which students get heavily involved.

So along with your A-Level studies, subject trips and visits, sports and activities, drama and music, there will be a great deal to keep you busy during your time with us.
