OUR SOCIAL PURPOSE

At d’Overbroeck’s, our students act with purpose and passion in everything they do. Empowered by our outward-looking ethos and deep-rooted values, your child will take the lead and support the causes that matter to them, effecting lasting change in school, our community, and around the world.

BECOMING A CONFIDENT, CONCIENTIOUS LEADER

Our Student Council shapes how we do things as a community, representing their peers with determination and pride.

Working as a team, our young leaders influence important whole-school decisions, from the type of co-curricular activities on offer to the charities we support. Our sixth formers also raise the issues that matter to them, setting up a club to combat environmental concerns and creating a safe space to discuss gender and sexuality. These experiences enable them to grow in confidence, learn from others, and develop vital communication skills.

CREATING CHANGE IN THE COMMUNITY

With three main sites in north Oxford – and several boarding houses across the city – our school plays an important role in the community. Our Sixth Form students lead the way, proactively raising money and awareness for charities, and making meaningful local connections. From organising a book drive for underprivileged children to collecting essential supplies for a neighbouring foodbank, our young people use their courage, commitment, and creativity to make a real difference.

DEVELOPING A GLOBAL OUTLOOK

A variety of hands-on activities, life-changing trips, and one-of-a-kind experiences open our students’ eyes to the challenges facing our planet – and give them the opportunity to change things for the better.

These include our Model United Nations group, where your child will debate topics of global significance, learn to communicate with confidence, and propose game-changing ideas. You’ll also find our students tackling social responsibility projects on our Global Campus platform and supporting communities as far afield as Sierra Leone.

THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD

We encourage all our students to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

Through the programme, your child will set their own goals and challenges, take part in activities they enjoy, and commit to making a difference in our community. The Award builds our students’ confidence and self-esteem, and teaches essential skills for the future, including resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to solve problems.
