Frequently asked questions

  • How quickly do you respond to enquiries?
We aim to get back to you within 48 hours of receiving your enquiry (working hours, Monday to Friday).
  • Which universities do your students go to?
Many of our graduates continue their education at the UK’s best universities, including University College London, Oxford, and the London School of Economics. With the expert guidance of our Higher Education and Careers Team, students with specialist talents – including in the performing and fine arts – discover their own pathways to excellence, too.
  • Do your students wear a uniform?
We embrace informality at d’Overbroeck’s, which means our students in younger years have a light-touch uniform and in our sixth form your child can wear the clothes they feel most comfortable in.
  • Boarding: What meals will my child eat?
Our boarders enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, as well as a variety of healthy snacks. At weekends, your child will sit down with friends for a tasty brunch and hot evening meal.
  • Boarding: Will my child get homesick?
We know that every child is likely to miss their family at some point. It’s normal to feel homesick, but experience tells us this feeling usually subsides as our students get involved in school life. Our boarding parents and pastoral team will make sure your child is supported every step of the way.
  • Boarding: Do you offer different boarding options?
Yes, we offer two options in the Sixth Form: weekly (five days, Sunday to Thursday) and termly (full) boarding. At d'Overbroeck's International, we only offer a termly option.
  • Boarding: How can I follow my child’s progress?
We’ll update you on your child’s progress through regular reports. You can get in touch with our boarding team whenever you like, too. They’ll happily answer your questions or discuss any concerns. They can also offer expert advice and guidance related to any aspect of our boarding experience.
  • Boarding: Will my child have a roommate?
Our students typically sleep in single or twin rooms. This does depend, however, on your child’s age, the boarding house they live in, and our availability. Please get in touch with our admissions team to find out more.
  • How long does the admissions process take?
From the moment you get in touch with us to the offer of a place, our admissions process can – in some cases – be extremely quick. Timings do vary, though, as each family’s application journey is different. Please speak to our admissions team to find out more.
  • Do you offer boarding?
Yes, we offer boarding for 13 to 16-year-olds at d'Overbroeck's International and 16 to 18-year-olds in our Sixth Form. Our safe, supportive, and empowering boarding environment is a place where every young person gets the care they need to flourish. Alongside a bespoke academic education, your child will benefit from a strong sense of belonging, a breadth of exciting activities, and the very best advice and guidance.
  • Do you accept all nationalities?
At d’Overbroeck’s, we welcome all nationalities. We’re proud of our school’s diversity, which currently includes students from more than 40 countries.
  • Will my child need to sit an entrance exam?
Most students will sit an assessment as part of our admissions process. Your child may also be invited to an interview. This does, however, depend on your child’s age and the education system they’re joining us from. To find out more, please get in touch with our admissions team or visit our entry requirements page.
  • Do you offer taster sessions?
Yes, we offer taster days for students joining our Senior School campus. After you’ve applied, your child is very welcome to come and spend the day with us, where they’ll experience life as a d’Overbroeck’s student. They’ll be looked after by one of our brilliant ‘buddies’, spend time with our teachers, and meet their fellow students.
  • What curricula do you teach?
We teach the English National Curriculum on all three of our campuses. In Senior School, students study for their GCSEs, while at Sixth Form, learners follow our A-level curriculum. At d'Overbroeck's International, we offer a choice of five programmes, which have been carefully curated to meet the individual needs, entry points, and backgrounds of our overseas students.
  • What foreign languages do you offer?
We teach French, Spanish, and Latin in Senior School. At d'Overbroeck's International, we offer French and Spanish, as well as a comprehensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. And in Sixth Form, we teach Classical Greek, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish.
  • What size are your classes?
Our class sizes vary depending on the age group and school site. Typically, however, your child will learn in small classes with a maximum of 15 students. Across our campuses, our average teacher-student ratio is 1 to 7.
  • Should we now make changes to our publicised fees – website etc. – such that “plus VAT” is added to the spring and summer 2025 fees?

There should be an update the to the publicised fees website, noting that VAT may apply at 20% and that draft legislation exists.
