We were delighted to work as a Partner School with the Oxford Chamber Music Festival (OCMF) again last year. OCMF's educational vision is to seek to introduce music in all of its glorious complexity and life-affirming richness to as wide an audience as possible. At d'Overbroeck's, we share the same commitment to making music as approachable and enjoyable as possible for all of our students.

Last year we launched our first composition competition with OCMF; recognising and celebrating the musical talents of secondary school students around the world. We received some fantastic entries and thoroughly enjoyed many hours of happy listening when reviewing their pieces! Whilst we hoped to meet our shortlisted applicants face-to-face, due to the pandemic we invited them to join an online masterclass where they could speak to the judges and hear their feedback and advice.

Our judges panel included: Jonny Greenwood, Jeremy Arden and Priya Mitchell, OCMF Director. One of the highly commended runners up was Thomas, one of our Year 12 Music Scholars at d'Overbroeck's! Click on the video below to hear about his composition 'Reflections for Violin and Piano', how he approached the competition and his top tips for future entrants: [embed]https://youtu.be/0Om0_1m1zs0[/embed] Here is a full performance of Thomas's piece performed by d'Overbroeck's violin teacher Jean Paterson:

Well done on your excellent work Thomas! D'Overbroeck's provides an ideal environment for musical education and runs and A-Level music programme.
