A word from Jane Cockerill, Head of Years 7-11

We have been described as “a school of energy, laughter and achievement” and that’s true – but d’Overbroeck’s is also a school where people matter and where we want everyone to thrive. A successful education to us is also a happy one where you can grow and be your own person.

We are Oxford’s only fully co-educational independent school from age 11 through to Sixth Form. Our aim is for every one of our students to meet his or her personal potential. That journey begins in Year 7 (or in Year 9 for those joining us from Prep schools), where this potential is identified, challenged and given every opportunity to grow. At the heart of our ethos is the knowledge and celebration of each of our students as an individual. Our consistently proven academic excellence comes as a result of this ethos, as does our community of students who are engaged, happy and at ease with themselves and their peers.

Teachers and students use first-name terms to encourage students to ask questions, to discuss their work openly and to share ideas. We also have a light touch uniform because we like people to be themselves. Furthermore, having small classes of up to 15 students allows our teachers and staff to really get to know students and have the space and time to discuss and be involved.

Our Years 7-11 school is on a different site to our Sixth Form so that our students can grow at their own speed in the right environment for this age group before moving on to a dedicated Sixth Form teaching centre. The result is a happy, busy and extremely successful environment which values learning, curiosity and happiness.

d’Overbroeck’s has always been a place of positive relationships and shared purpose; a place where academic and extra-curricular achievement, personal development and hearty laughter all come on the same wavelength. And we do our best to ensure that this is always the case!

Why choose d'Overbroeck's Years 7-11?

Years 7-11 at d’Overbroeck’s is a co-educational day school, drawing students from the local area and further afield, thanks to the Oxford transport network. Years 7-11 covers a broad curriculum from Year 7 through to GCSE. Students are encouraged to enjoy learning, to be curious and think outside the box. We value choice, engagement and enjoyment, and offer plenty of opportunities for students to try new things and develop their talents.

Our students all have unique strengths, and we work with each individual to find ways to celebrate these. Our academic staff work together with an extensive pastoral team to ensure every student in our care feels nurtured, and knows that we believe in them. What matters to us is that students learn best when they are happy, working with staff who are passionate about their subject, and who teach in interesting and creative ways to help students achieve academic excellence in a warm, caring environment. By focusing on what they love, our students can enjoy a fulfilling education.

“One of my favourite things at Years 7-11 is the range of Music groups and activities. There are so many to get involved in and lots of opportunities to perform if you want to – it’s great!”

Seth, Year 10

Our brave students at The International School had a go at rock climbing on a recent trip to Clip 'n' Climb! For some, it was their first time trying rock climbing. 😮
