OUR YEARS 7-11 CURRICULUM

At d’Overbroeck’s, our Years 7-11 students follow the English National Curriculum, which culminates in their GCSE exams at 16.

In a relaxed yet academically ambitious independent secondary school environment, subject specialists deliver a broad curriculum that encourages our students to be curious, think outside the box, and push the boundaries. Challenging, engaging, and packed with outstanding learning experiences, our Key Stage 3 and 4 programmes provide a broad and balanced education that prepares our students for A-levels.

YEARS 7, 8, AND 9

In Years 7 and 8, our students follow a broad curriculum, which includes maths, English, sciences, geography, history, computing, art and design, music, drama, sport, and religion, ethics and philosophy.

Your child will learn in mixed groups, with the exception of maths, which is set according to ability. Learning is tailored to individual styles and needs, enabling each student to work at their own pace and enjoy the right level of challenge and support.

Moving into Year 9, our students start to specialise in certain areas. This includes choosing two languages from three – French, Spanish, and Latin – or selecting to study classical civilisation. Students also follow biology, chemistry, and physics as separate subjects.

YEARS 10 AND 11 (GCSES)

At Key Stage 4, our students work towards their GCSE exams. Your child will typically study 9 GCSE subjects, which are structured into option groups that offer as much choice and flexibility as possible. Alongside compulsory maths, English language, English literature, and triple award science, your child will select a modern language and a humanities subject. They’ll choose their remaining options based on their interests, skills, and ambitions.

Taking charge of their learning – and doing what they love – ensures our students achieve excellent exam results. In 2022, 63% of all entries achieved grades between 9 and 7.

Our comprehensive co-curricular programme includes a variety of sporting, creative, academic, wellbeing, and leadership activities. We also offer The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which is hugely popular among our students.

In everything they do, we’ll make sure your child is supported, healthy, and happy, too.
