Year 11 were faced with a slightly unusual challenge last week in PD: In small groups, they were given an egg and they had to work together to build a contraption that the egg could sit in as it was dropped off the top of the social area balcony!
Each group was provided with a variety of different resources including a bin bag, sandwich bags, string, sellotape, straws, newspaper and paperclips. Most groups decided on a parachute-type mode of transport and after a few dubious test runs (with some very eggy mess!), we were really surprised by how many eggs survived the big drop. All our year 11’s worked brilliantly to come up with some great designs and we were really impressed with their team work skills. Half way through, they were allowed to trade some materials in, and after some dodgy bartering over paperclips and selloptape, all groups put forward their grand designs. Some students became very attached to their eggs over the course of the hour and were rather reluctant to part with them!
This is a big term for Year 11, especially in the lead up to their GCSE Mock exams just after Christmas, so this was a lovely chance for them to let off some steam, have a laugh with their peers, as well as improving their teamwork skills. A lot of fun was had by all!
