On Sunday 16 September, three d’Overbroeck’s teachers joined forces to compete in the Eton Dorney “End of Season” Triathlon event. Inspired by the stunning Olympic 2012 rowing venue, PE teacher Johny Richards plunged into the water to swim 1,500 m (which constitutes the first leg of the Olympic distance Team Triathlon event). Johny is an expert sprint swimmer, but his class still shone through at the longer distance, as he emerged second out of the water from a big field of swimmers.
After a slick changeover, PE teacher Martin Procter set off on the bike. Martin’s section was by far the longest, both in terms of distance and time, with an 8 lap course of 42 km to cover. Martin maintained an excellent rhythm throughout and put the team in a good position as he handed over to Maths teacher Graham Hope for the final section, a 10km run. Graham had to battle with strong crosswinds but managed to gain ground on other teams and improve the team position by a few places.
The d’Overbroeck’s Teachers team finished the event in 2 hours 24 minutes in an impressive 5th position out of 43 teams. Well done to you all!
