Ellen has been at student at d’Overbroeck’s since Year 7 and was awarded an Art Scholarship on moving up to the Sixth Form. She is particularly interested in film and in the production design aspect of film-making.
Ellen’s final Art project focuses on seeing the human body as an object, inspired in part by RD Laing’s book “The Divided Self”. In her A level work, she has enjoyed experimenting with different materials and being driving by her own ideas. She also cites the life drawing classes at d’Overbroeck’s as invaluable and feels her work has benefited considerably from these sessions.
In the Spring of 2018 Ellen was picked to participate in a residential course at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, run jointly by the NFTS and British Film Institute. The course focussed on craft skills and each group was assigned roles within a production crew and tasked with making a short film. Ellen took on the role of Production Designer and says it was an invaluable experience, both in terms of learning technical aspects of film-making and networking with others on the course.
After Sixth Form, Ellen plans to take a gap year to work in film on set design, dressing and props for short film.
