Lower Sixth Scholar Rowena was at Lilleshall National Sports Centre with England Hockey over the half-term school break. As well as training and fitness testing, the three day Camp included two matches against Ireland U18s. Row was thrilled to be chosen to wear the Captain’s band for the first match, leading her England team out onto the pitch to swap pennants with her Irish counterpart. The day was made even more memorable by a 2-1 win for England.
Row reflects, “I was one of the England Hockey team captains when I played U16, but this is the first time I’ve been selected to captain the U18s, so it was a very proud moment. The match was very competitive – unsurprisingly since Ireland Women reached the final of the Hockey World Cup in 2018 – so it felt very special to lead my team to victory last week”.
Row will be attending two more training camps in March at Bisham Abbey and Lilleshall and hopes to be selected for the three-match away series against the Dutch, which would be the third consecutive Easter weekend she’s spent in Holland playing for her country.
