Welcome to d'Overbroeck's Years 7-11

A word from Mark Olejnik, Head of Years 7-11

We have been described as “a school of energy, laughter and achievement” and that’s true – but d’Overbroeck’s is also a school where people matter and where we want everyone to thrive. A successful education to us is also a happy one where you can grow and be your own person.

A focus on the individual
A focus on the individual lies at the heart of our ethos and all we do. We don't believe in a 'one-size fits all' approach; instead, we get to know each and every one of our students as individuals so we can support and develop them, whatever stage they're at in their education journey. We offer excellent pastoral care to support our students right the way through to when they leave us at the end of Year 11.

Be your best
Whilst we don't take ourselves too seriously when it comes to formal structures, our results are no laughing matter. We have continued to see our students make excellent progress during the past few years, resulting in our best ever GCSE results in 2019.
Future-focused
Our academic curriculum and co-curricular activities are designed with a view to creating leaders of the future. Our students have a diverse range of talents, skills and interests so we provide a broad set of opportunities for them to develop these during their time with us and prepare for the next step of their academic journey. We also regularly provide opportunities for our students to develop their transferable skills to ensure they're ready for the ever-changing and fast-paced world of work.
Fun and laughter
We believe that fun and laughter bring education to life and we strive to bring this into the classroom every day. Our students thrive on this approach and it makes for a very enjoyable learning experience for all; teachers included!
Non-traditional
At d'Overbroeck's, it's not about stuffy traditions, strict uniforms or sticking to the status quo. It's about making room for creativity and expression, which we do by removing the formal, traditional strictures of education that can be stifling. In practice, this means we're on first-name terms with all our students (even from Year 7) and we have a relaxed uniform in Years 7-11.

School Ethos

We’re often asked what makes d’Overbroeck’s different to other schools, and the answer lies in our school ethos. Central to this is our focus on the individual and our dedication to supporting all our students to be the best they can be. In Years 7-11, we place particular emphasis on pastoral care and developing each student to reach their full potential to prepare them for the next stage of their academic journey.

Sixth Form progression

The majority of our students in Years 7-11 continue on to study their A-Levels with us in the Sixth Form. In addition to offering a wide range of 35 subjects in flexible combinations, we encourage students to get involved in our extensive academic enrichment programme. Outside of their academic pursuits, our Sixth Form students are very involved in co-curricular activities, such as sport, music and drama as well as societies such as Debating. Our Sixth Form provides students with the right level of independence to prepare them for their next step after finishing school.
