d’Overbroeck’s have run a popular summer programme for international students for many years. The Bucksmore Young Professionals course is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience the new d’Overbroeck’s sixth form and boarding facilities. It is also ideal for students wanting to experience life at d’Overbroeck’s and in Oxford before studying at the school full time.
Young Professionals is an academic enrichment programme for ambitious students with a high level of English design to introduce them to future career options.
Students choose one of five subject areas in which to specialise, covering Business & Finance, Medicine, Computer Science, Media & Communications, and Engineering.
Within these subjects, students participate in a range of theoretical classes, practical sessions, and group projects. Each week students go on a ‘Study-in-Action’ excursion, to a destination related to their chosen career.
The Young Professionals summer programme is run at d’Overbroeck’s by Bucksmore Education.
Students choose one vocational subject to study for a minimum of 2 weeks. We are excited to announce that the specialist subjects for summer 2020 are as follows (click on the ‘+’ for the course content):
Bucksmore Education takes academic excellence seriously. Our passionate tutors and dedicated staff work hard to ensure that all of our students reach a comprehensive understanding of their chosen subject. All courses have a maximum class size of 11 students to ensure students get the attention they need.
Study-in-Action Days and Excursions
Students have two full days outside of the classroom each week. Days out of the school are split into two types: ‘excursions’ and ‘study-in-action days’.
Excursions are a relaxed way for students to visit famous cities in the UK such as London, Bath and Oxford.
Study-in-action days are centred around the subject area and take the learning outside the classroom. Students visit destinations related to their subject that provide real-life experiences connecting practice and profession.
Our students are never at a loss for things to do, especially in the city of Oxford where a host of attractions, museums, cafes and galleries await them. The social timetable is carefully planned by our on-site Activity Manager who ensures all students have a fantastic time during their stay. Students will enjoy a packed social programme every day of the week. Our staff will also stay with the students, offering 24-hour supervision.
Now in our 41st year, Bucksmore Education has been running summer schools for international students since 1979. In 2019 they welcomed hundreds of students travelling from more than 75 countries across the world.
Bucksmore combines traditional educational values with innovative and creative programmes for international students. They offer a wide range of summer courses for students aged 10-18, from intensive English language options to more advanced and challenging summer programmes like Young Professionals.
We are all part of the same family and belong to the Oxford International Education Group so we work very closely together, and we are delighted to be cooperating with Bucksmore to run the Young Professionals programme at d’Overbroeck’s this summer.
