Start date: September
Duration: Three terms
English level: B1 and above on the Common European Framework (CEFR)
Academic level: Academically able student looking to achieve good grades
The one year IGCSE course gives you the same qualification that British students gain in two years. How do we do it in half the time? Small classes, specialist teachers and the focus that comes from everyone being on the same journey. The shorter, more intensive course is a cost effective way to gain this internationally recognised qualification.
Our students usually want to move on to A Level or IB, either at d’Overbroeck’s or another independent school and this course is excellent preparation for success. By taking the IGCSE course, you will improve your chances of getting top A Level grades and getting into your preferred university in future.
Alternatively, students may wish to go home and study in their own system, in which case gaining top IGCSE grades in a year here will give you an internationally recognised qualification for the future.
Students work in very small classes, usually a maximum of 10. Lessons run from Monday to Friday, beginning at 0835 and ending at 1640. Students take part in activities three times a week after class. On Mondays to Thursdays, there is supervised study or homework for all students from 1900-2100. At the weekend there are trips and activities to help you make the most of living in Oxford.
The IGCSE subjects we offer are:
- English as a Second Language
- English as a First Language
- Further Mathematics
- Business Studies
- Global Citizenship
- First Language (your own language)
Students take a minimum of 5 subjects and a maximum of 8 subjects. We will help you to make the right choices for you, depending on your future plans and present level of English, ensuring that you are building the foundation for your long term goal.
All students also take courses in study skills and Personal, Social and Health Education, taking the Excelsis award.
