We take day students only in Years 7-11, but both day students and boarders in the Sixth Form. Our one and two year IGCSE or Pre-IB programmes for international students can also accommodate day and boarding students.
We are a selective school, though we aim not to be too narrowly so on academic grounds alone: subject to applicants meeting the minimum entrance requirements that are relevant to their year of entry, we are happy to consider students across a relatively wide range of abilities. Our overriding aim is to enable all of our students, throughout the age and ability range, to achieve to the best of their potential both academically and personally.
In addition to academic ability and motivation, particular aptitude in areas such as art, sport, music or drama or an active and well-informed enthusiasm in any other worthwhile area will be taken into account when applications are considered.
Entry points into d’Overbroeck’s
Our main entry points are:
- at 11+ into Year 7
- at 13+ into Year 9
- at 16+ into the Sixth Form
- at 14+ into the two-year IGCSE programme and at 15+ into the one-year IGCSE programme.
Subject to places being available, we are happy to consider applications on behalf of pupils who may wish to join us at a different point, directly into Year 8 or Year 10 for instance.
To give you an idea of scale, we have a two-form entry into Year 7 (that is a maximum of 30 students in total); we then add a third form in Year 9, mainly for students joining us from prep schools.
In the Sixth Form, and in addition to our own Year 11s going through, we have a large entry directly into the Lower Sixth each year. This makes us a ‘mushroom-shaped’ school – in the sense that we get bigger as we move up the age range. Of our 470 or so students, some 210 are in Years 7-11 and 260 are in the Sixth Form.
