Last week, several Sixth Form Business students were fortunate to get seats to listen to a seminar delivered by Judith Mckenna, the President and CEO of Walmart at the University of Oxford’s Said Business School.
The seminar focussed on the vast number of changes that are being made in the retail industry and growing the brand outside to operate in 27 countries running ‘brick and mortar’ stores and 10 countries using e-commerce. In particular I enjoyed listening to her unplanned path to running a company which today employs 2.3 million people, as well as one of her biggest projects where she oversaw the acquisition of Indian e-commerce website Flipkart for $16 billion and the cultural difficulties she faced in the process.
Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and I will continue to attend these ‘distinguished speaker’ talks during my free time.
