Amy Coates, who finished her A-levels with us in 2016, returned to speak to the Lower Sixth Biology+ students about the work she is doing in her placement year.
As part of her Medical Microbiology course at Leicester, she has a sandwich year in industry and Amy has spent the last two terms in the Microbiology department of LGC, Cambridge. She spoke in general terms about her testing of farm samples from various parts of Europe for antibiotic-resistant bacteria, concentrating mainly on the methodology used, as the results are still confidential. She interested the students both in the work she had done and in the possible career paths leading from her course. It was a greatly enjoyable evening.
