During the summer term, our Year 8 students went to see a production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.
The production was extremely funny and very original, with modern takes on the characters and the set.
Highlights of the performance included the food fight scene, where the cast threw bread and sausage rolls into the audience. Also, the production had plenty of modern cultural references, such as Jennifer Lawrence, Game of Thrones and Infinity War. We all enjoyed the running jokes of Puck continuously exiting through the paper walls of the set and the Mechanicals messing up all their scenes.
There was a lot of audience participation, although no one had to go onto the stage, which some of our students didn’t quite appreciate, as they were very keen to get involved!
We also loved all the varying range of music types, including live singing and “courtly” music. Peter Quince was especially funny, as he did an almost stand-up comedy section at the beginning where he joked with members of the audience and commented on current topics such as the Royal wedding.
We all really enjoyed it!
