"Hello. My name is Jan Willem and
I’m from Holland.
I came on this course to get an idea of what Oxford was like as I want to study here
later.
First of all it was very nice to
meet so many people from all over the world and spend two weeks with them. It’s
great to have a theme each week and get into the topic. The teachers are really
great because they encourage you to speak as much English as you can. It’s a
great, busy course with no time for homesickness!
I enjoyed all the trips. I
especially liked the trip to Stratford
and the ‘Shakesperience’ workshop. We really got a lot of information about
Shakespeare and also went and saw the theatre itself. The workshop, ‘To Laugh
or not to laugh’ was a real highlight of the trip for me. The murder mystery
party was also great fun. You can tell that a lot of work and effort is put
into each of the activities.
The activities are all very
different and you get to do many different things. They fit in very well to the
theme of the week and one other good thing is that you always get a sport and a
non-sport option, for example playing Cricket, Rounders or Football or having
traditional cream tea or visiting a museum.
The staff and students are very nice, kind, helpful and funny.
You are constantly doing things
and there is never a dull moment on the d’Overbroeck’s Summer course. The
themes are all very different and you learn lots of things from this course
which you can take away with you: linguistically; academically and culturally.
I’ve made new friends from all over the world. I have very happy memories! My
lasting memory will be of the ‘Shakesperience’ workshop because it was a chance
for us to see a part of British culture and history in a fun and interactive
setting. The location in Oxford
is beautiful. It’s a very busy course and you get to know a lot of new people.
You really feel like you can grow into the community here."
