Student Profiles
Joe Brooke
Lower Sixth
Subjects: Business Studies, Psychology, Physical Education
Joe first started playing squash against his father at the age of 10. He soon discovered a natural talent and has for the last few years been playing at a very competitive level. He presently plays in four leagues: Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Reading and Surrey. He travels a great deal to compete in tournaments and plays matches several evenings a week.
Joe is coached in Wallingford by Scott Hanley who was one of the UK's top players. In the last year Joe has competed in the French Open (where he came 5th) and the US Open (where he finished 9th). Currently Joe is ranked 5th in the UK in the under 17s league. His next competition is the Amsterdam Open.
Joe has really enjoyed his subjects at AS level and believes this has helped to keep his future options open. His next aim is to go to university in the US, hopefully on a sports scholarship.
Greatest achievement
After being drawn in the British Open against the Egyptian Number One, Joe managed to take the match to the final game and only lost by 15 to 13. Even though he lost, Joe felt his performance was a great achievement against such a strong player.
