Activities

There’s no shortage of choices when it comes to the pursuit of extra-curricular activities at d’Overbroeck’s. Last year students could pick from a wider range of sporting and leisure activity options than ever before, from debating to X-Box gaming, fencing to rowing, in addition to more conventional sports and activities. It was also a good year for competitive fixtures against other schools including football, cricket, rugby, tennis, basketball, hockey and debating. d’Overbroeck’s also competed in national rugby (including Rugby 7s), tennis and basketball championships and several county-wide sports events, (not forgetting the most keenly-fought contests of all – those between students and staff!).

In addition to the regular events held on Tuesday afternoons which are dedicated to sports and leisure at d’Overbroeck’s, students can also enjoy a number of one-off activities, including the now-legendary d’Overbroeck’s Go-Kart Grand Prix and the many activities that are part of the Post AS study period, where students have 2 weeks of daily matches, games and outings after morning lessons.

Once again we were lucky to be able to enjoy the use of the world-class Oxford Brookes University Centre for Sport. Coaching is of the highest standard. For example, last year basketball training was provided by Oxford Hoops star Mike Porter, Oxford City Rowing Club coach Bill Platt steered the way for our budding oarsmen and women, and University Blue and Varsity Match veteran Johnny Fennell ran the twice-weekly rugby training sessions.
