Sports Awards

d’Overbroeck’s is keen to acknowledge student commitment, and we formally recognise our students’ participation in activities. The College aims to provide as wide a range of activities as possible and looks to acknowledge students’ involvement in a tangible way that might also benefit them later.

This year 31 students had their commitment to participation in activities formally recognised at the end of the year by being presented with specially engraved glass tankards and certificates at the college’s annual Awards Dinner.

Also rewarded were the outstanding achievements of six students who participated in several different sports and represented the College in competitive and friendly matches. Joao Barbosa, Max Dorey, Alex Edwards,  James Jones, Alexine Lafeber and Harry Radcliffe all received the d’Overbroeck’s Commendation for Services to Activities.

In fact, Max Dorey’s performances both on and off the pitch earned him two of the prestigious awards: one as Most Improved Player for his tireless contributions on the rugby field, the other for his work on d’Overbroeck’s stage spectacular, The Little Shop of Horrors. Alex Edwards was named Activities Person of the Year in recognition of his varied sporting enthusiasms; Joao’s soccer skills earned him the overall Player of the Year title; Club of the Year was Basketball; and the college Rugby XV was picked as Team of the Year, each player receiving a framed team photo to go with their certificates.
