Scholarships |

The College offers a number of Scholarships and awards each year to students entering the Sixth Form. These are awarded to students who show outstanding achievement and potential as well as the willingness to make a significant contribution to the life of the College and its student community. Eligibilty Applications will be considered for the coming academic year from students who would like to join the Sixth Form in September 2008 for a full-time two-year course of study. The College makes two types of awards: Scholarships and Access Awards. These are described in detail below. The College also offers a number of bursaries which, unlike scholarships, are means-related. If you wish to discuss the possibility of a bursary, please contact the Principal. A. SCHOLARSHIPS The following scholarships will be available to students starting in the Sixth Form in September 2008: All-round Academic Scholarships Up to 4 such awards may be made in a year to candidates who show outstanding academic potential supported by a high level of academic achievement to date. Science Scholarship The Mary Tarrell Science Scholarship is awarded for outstanding ability in science to a student who will study at least two science subjects (from Chemistry/Physics/Biology) at A level. Art Scholarship The Barrington-Ward Art Scholarship is awarded to a students who shows outstanding talent in the visual / fine arts supported by a strong portfolio of current work. Performing Art Scholarship The April Darling Performing Arts Scholarship, is awarded to a
student who shows outstanding talent and enthusiasm in one or more of
the performing arts (music, drama, dance). Candidates for the
performing arts scholarship are not obliged to study music or theatre
studies at AS/A level. And the holder of the scholarship will be
expected to play a very active part in College productions and other
extra-curricular activities in the performing arts arena within the
College. This is a new award which we are offering this year for the first time. It will be awarded to a student who can demonstrate a well-informed awareness of environmental issues along with well-directed enthusiasm, initiative and leadership qualities. We look forward to the successful candidate taking a pro-active interest in environmental issues among the student body and in helping to promote environmentally driven initiatives within the College. Value of ScholarshipsThe value of each of the above scholarships is at the discretion of the College, up to a maximum of 25% of tuition fees. The value of a scholarship may exceptionally be extended by an appropriate means-tested bursary in cases of genuine need. Please note that accommodation charges, where relevant, are applied in full. available from the College office and make their application at the
latest by Friday 25th January 2008. B. ACCESS AWARD- The Julie Baily Scholarship In addition to the above Scholarship Awards the College also offers up to 2 Access Awards for students wishing to move from the state sector into independent education. These awards, which may amount to as much as 100% of tuition fees, will be reserved for students of outstanding academic ability, whose families would demonstrably not be able to consider independent education otherwise. Further details of these awards may be requested from the College. |
