International students

Whilst the majority of students in the Sixth Form are from the UK, we also welcome a number of students from a wide range of countries across the globe. We value the cultural diversity international students bring to the College, and our UK students enjoy getting to know young people from different cultures and backgrounds.

In this section we have provided information which we hope will help international applicants.

There are two routes available to international students at d'Overbroeck's College:

OPAL (Oxford Pre- A level) Programme at d'Overbroeck's International Study Centre

If you are aged between 15 and 19 years; are academically ambitious; and have a lower intermediate level of English, we recommend that you spend one year at our ISC on our OPAL Programme before entering a UK Sixth Form to study A levels. This is the most popular route for international students joining d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form.

By following an intensive course of English supplemented by academic subjects, you will ensure that you are properly prepared for the demands of A level once you enter a Sixth Form. Therefore you may be more likely to obtain a place at your preferred university. Indeed, many of our former OPAL students have gone on to study at top UK universities.

A levels in d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form

If you are aged between 16 and 19 years; are already a confident communicator with strong skills in written and spoken English; and have strong academic achievements to date, we may feel that you are ready to enter the Sixth Form directly to study A levels.

However, remember that you will be studying alongside fellow students from the UK, and so you will need to be able to adjust quickly to learning English in an educational system different to that of your home country, as the level of academic English will be high.

Students considering A levels directly should have a level of around 5 to 5.5 in the IELTS academic test and appropriate qualifications in their own country.

FOR ADVICE ON WHICH PROGRAMME IS MOST SUITED TO YOU, PLEASE CONTACT OUR ISC REGISTRAR by e-mail at isc@doverbroecks.com or by phone on +44 (0) 1865 558252. She will advise you on which programme is right for you, and ask you to supply us with your most recent school reports and a reference from your current school, both in English.

For an introduction to school life in the UK you may consider our summer English courses, Experiencing English.

Students between 15 and 19 years old can study English for 2 to 6 weeks in the centre of Oxford. This is not only an invaluable introduction to d'Overbroeck's, but also a wonderful English course in its own right. Learning is theme-based, hands-on and practical, involving students in a range of exciting workshops, debates, visits and classroom teaching linked to themes both relevant and interesting to young adults and to the UK. You will learn by doing, improving your skills in speaking, listening and writing.
