Higher Education

We believe that providing students with the necessary tools and knowledge to go on to Higher Education is an essential part of a Sixth Form education. At d'Overbroeck's, we offer all our students advice and support through workshops, seminars and visits to universities. Below is a summary of some of the events on offer to our students.

SATS Preparation Course

For the first time this year we are running our SATS Preparation Course for those students interested in applying to universities in the US.

UCAS Briefing for students

Starting at 10.10am at The Swan, Dr Mark R Wormald, Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford, will lead a 'UCAS Briefing' for all lower sixth students focusing on the secrets of writing the personal statement. Then at 11.35am all students can choose to attend either an International Student Briefing' led by Paul Woods from Royal Holloway (part of the University of London) looking at the specific issues faced by International students when applying to UK universities, or a 'Gap Year Briefing' for UK/EU students by Anne Smellie, Destination Manager from Oyster Worldwide.

Trip to University of Warwick

Those who are interested should sign up with Kate in the Sixth Form Office to reserve their place, there are limited spaces so sign up quick!

University Alumni Day

At 10am we will meet at The Swan for a session with a group of alumni to talk about 'Life at University'. Each of them will share their experiences and, after a question and answer session, split into small groups for the reality of 'Studying at University'. After lunch we will reassemble at 1.30pm for follow up sessions with your Director of Studies.

Careers Evening

For our Lower Sixth and Years 10 and 11 from Leckford Place. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to meet and talk to d'Overbroeck's parents who have careers which they might be considering. There will be
representatives at the evening from doctors to writers, entrepreneurs to film directors... so bring your CV! Click to read more.

Birmingham University Open Day

The trip to Birmingham University Open Day is compulsory for all Lower Sixth Students. Leaving The Swan at 8.45am this is an excellent opportunity to visit one of the universities in the elite Russell Group as well as sampling campus life.
