Courses and the Curriculum

What will you study?

First of all, you will choose your A level subjects. Practically any combination is possible, as our aim is to offer you breadth and flexibility; never to limit your options.

The result: you choose the subjects that interest you, fit with your strengths and will propel you to future success.

How does the A level system work?

In your first year, you'll (typically) study four subjects; in your second, you'll generally continue to study three of those four (but some students choose to continue with all four).

The first year exams are known as AS level exams; those in the second year are A2 exams – and your overall A level result will be a combination of the two (AS + A2 = A level).

All students take exams in the summer of their first and second years. In most cases, you'll also take January exams.

At a glance

  • Choice of nearly 40 A level subjects
  • Almost any combination of subjects possible
  • Four subjects in First Year (AS)
  • Three subjects in Second Year (A2)
  • Exams in January and summer each year
