Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics These courses are designed for students studying at either intermediate or higher level. We cater for both Single Subject Science syllabuses and those studying the new Science and Additional Science courses (2 GCSEs). Students may study all three sciences or focus on one or two in combination with other non-science subjects. The course is not suitable for those studying only core science (1 GCSE). The course will focus on science content (facts and key concepts). "How Science Works", revision techniques and exam technique will be covered during the teaching of the science content. There will be extensive practice of exam style questions and the opportunity for students to receive individual help throughout the course. The three Sciences are still taught separately by specialist teachers, but areas of overlap are highlighted. Biology The study of Biology encompasses a wealth of material, but success in the subject at GCSE level depends on a clear understanding of certain key principles, common to all syllabuses. During the course we shall concentrate on these fundamental topics, making sure that each student has a clear grasp of the concepts involved, and that he or she is adept at applying knowledge in an examination context. The main topics we shall target are: Photosynthesis, Respiration, Genetics, Ecosystems, Man and Environment, Cell Biology and the Mechanisms and Maintenance of the Body. There will also be opportunities to look at other topics, including Evolution and Biotechnology, depending on individual needs. |
