English Language

The main focus of this revision course is to refine examination technique.

There are various areas which will receive attention: syntax and grammar; structuring essays; clear, precise analysis of language; understanding the particular requirements of specific questions and allocating time effectively under examination conditions.

The lessons will combine discussion of specific questions to clarify what the examiner will be looking for, with written tests to consolidate this analysis.

Students will be encouraged to adopt a critical vocabulary for analysis of text. They will have the opportunity to develop writing in a variety of forms: to explore, imagine and entertain; to inform, explain and describe; to argue, persuade and advise, and to analyse, review and comment.

These aims are common to all boards but students will be tested on past papers specific to their board.
