History AS / A2

History

The aim of the course at both AS and A Level is to help students consolidate their knowledge and use it to best effect for examination success. Key skills (such as essay writing and source analysis) common to all examination boards and papers will be taught.

For each topic area, there will be:

• Coverage of the central issues and problems.

• Opportunity to practise writing exam questions (appropriate to each board).

• Model answers.

• Detailed feedback on students' performance in exam tasks.

Guidance will also be given on effective revision leading up to the exams.

What will you achieve?

A short course cannot hope to compensate for a year’s lack of learning! As such, the course does not aim to impart huge quantities of new factual information. Rather, you should emerge with a more advanced and sophisticated understanding of the arguments and issues surrounding the material you have studied,

and hopefully stimulated by discussing it with a different tutor and students. You will understand exactly what the examiners are looking for and what they will credit. You will have the opportunity to write exam answers under timed conditions, and to plan answers to others; these will be marked and analysed by your tutor to show you where your strengths and weaknesses lie. You should emerge with a clear idea of what is necessary for exam success, keys to achieving it and a clear idea of what needs to be done before the summer to enable you to maximise your chances in the exams.
