Classical Studies

The aims of the revision course will be to review key parts of set texts or factual data using a thematic approach designed to aid the student in choosing appropriate examples for illustration in essays and context questions. The course will concentrate on guidance on how to interpret essay questions, plus planning, organisation and timing. Context questions will receive intensive coverage – especially the tricky (b) question. Strategies for revision will also be discussed.

The course will focus on the most popular topics from the OCR syllabus:

• Greek Epic

• Roman Epic

• Greek Comedy

• Roman Satire

• Greek Art & Architecture

• Roman Britain

Both AS and A2 modules will be offered according to demand.

Latin and Classical Greek

The course will aim to review the set texts of the OCR syllabus, with a focus on essays and literary appreciation questions. The texts offered are: Virgil Aeneid X11 and Ovid Amores I for Latin; Plato Phaedo and Herodotus Histories 8 for Classical Greek. Practice of unseen translation and comprehension will also feature on the course.

Since classes will be small the course can be tailored to the needs of the student.

Ancient History

Revision is available from the OCR syllabus of the Greek History modules on Athens (Development of democracy, the Culture of Athens; the Trial of Socrates) and the Roman Modules on Augustus (The City of Rome; the Age of Augustus; Augustus and Augustan Propaganda). Both AS and A2 are available.

The course will concentrate on the techniques needed for answering the different types of question effectively in order to gain maximum marks. Effective revision strategies will be discussed.
