Pastoral care
Learning support
Leckford Place is an academically selective school. Bearing this in mind, we are happy to offer places to some children who will require learning support – provided they fulfil our wider academic criteria, and we judge that we are able to offer them a suitable level of support.
Clearly, we will only accept pupils for whom we have the facilities and expertise to make appropriate provision.
Removing barriers and empowering students
We want to remove barriers to learning – enabling those pupils who require support to achieve the results they are capable of, rather than being hindered by practical difficulties.
Although careful teaching and (in some cases) one-to-one teaching may help in specific areas, we believe that building pupils' confidence and self-esteem is just as important.
The support we provide
All learning support students will receive the following support:
- An IEP, which we review on a termly basis – carefully monitoring your child's needs and progress
- Representations to exam boards – as we are well attuned to exam boards' 'access arrangements', we are happy to make representations on behalf of your child if we feel special exam arrangements are appropriate. These will be supported by an Ed Psych report.
- Experienced teaching – although some children may benefit from one-to-one sessions, many will find that our small classes and experienced teachers are more than sufficient to meet their needs.
