Why study Geography? To gain an understanding of how and why we exist as a fragile species on a unique and changing planet. To take an active part in the making of the human future. To have empathy for other life around us and a keenness to respect, enjoy and appreciate all that life throws our way. These are essential to living a full life on earth; Geography provides the tools and skills to enable us to do so.
What's a typical Geography lesson like? Varied! You might find yourself writing a newspaper article in support of or opposition to a new power station ... watching a DVD or YouTube video about collapsing icecaps ... taking part in a role play as an Amazonian community member discussing the future of the tropical rainforest ... or standing on a beach in Devon, measuring sediment size.
What makes for a great lesson? Students' freedom to think and imagine; a clear learning structure and environment; and fun.
