The winner of Oxfordshire County Council's first ever young composer competition has been named as Gidon Fineman, a 15-year-old pupil at Leckford Place (May 2007). Gidon, who plays piano and trumpet, and hopes to become a professional composer, wrote a piece for full orchestra called 'The Mermaid's Lament'.  Gidon has been composing since he was 11 years old and has a special interest in music for stage and screen.  Gidon says "The Leckford Place Music Department continually encourages and supports me with my composition work".
