FAQs

What is the size of the school?

We expect that the number of pupils in the School will grow gradually over the next few years. It is, however, fundamental to our philosophy that the school should remain a comfortable size: small enough for everyone to know everyone else and to feel very much an active and valued member of the school community; and yet big enough for pupils to feel that they have a fair-sized peer group and a good choice of friends. We expect to reach equilibrium with year groups of around 40 - 45 pupils and a total roll in the School of around 220 pupils.

Will my child thrive at Leckford Place?

The first thing to say is that children from all kinds of schools can expect to thrive at Leckford Place since we are firmly of the view that education should as far as possible be tailored to fit the child, rather than the other way around. Prospective pupils might have been at a state primary school or an independent prep school, or they may have experienced a mixture of the two.

We do not wish to be an exclusive school that is dismissive of all but the most academically able. We enjoy having a lively mix of children who will bring with them a diverse range of interests and talents, which may or may not be narrowly academic. We welcome excellence in the creative arts, in practical subjects such as ICT or DT or in drama, sport or music as much as excellence in academic subjects. And we value enthusiasm, which is well informed and proactively pursued, in any worthwhile area.

This is an environment in which everyone should feel valued for what they are and what they bring to the life of the school and its community. Our approach to teaching is finely geared to ensure that all pupils are stimulated and enabled to achieve their full academic potential.

What do pupils do for lunch?

Leckford Place is ahead of the game when it comes to healthy, appetising meals.

School lunch is available in the hall for pupils and staff alike. Although not compulsory, the majority of our students take lunch because it is so good! There is always a choice of main course with a vegetarian option, fresh salads, fresh fruit, fresh bread rolls and a range of scrumptious desserts.

Pupils may, of course, elect to bring their own packed lunch though all eat in the dining hall to make the most of an important social occasion. Special dietary needs can be catered for by arrangement.

We are keen to reinforce parental efforts to encourage a healthy diet and, for this reason, fizzy drinks and sweets will be discouraged in school.
