Physics is the "how it works" part of understanding of the world around us; everything from the very small (nanotechnology) to the very large (inter-galactic collisions) via ordinary everyday life. In physics we touch briefly on ideas developed over the past few thousand years to learn patterns of reasoning to take us into the future. We take on board the rapid developments of the 20th century to be able to apply them to our modern way of life. It is the skills, techniques and ways of thinking that are of most importance and these are transferable to many activities in life. Pre-GCSE Pre-GCSE, the course consists of finding the fun in science and learning basic concepts.(e.g. why don’t things fall up?) and acquiring basic skills (e.g. how to measure accurately and how to estimate). Energy and lifestyle questions, sustainability, recycling and the future of our planet are major concerns. GCSE Physics The GCSE syllabus concentrates on a more academic approach which gives a solid background in the subject for those who do not wish to continue with physics beyond 16 as well as a sound foundation for progression to AS and A level. |
