Biology at Leckford Place

Biology is the study of all life processes. The many advances in medical research and biotechnology and increasing public awareness of our impact on the environment mean that biology is more relevant and important than ever before.

In biology we study ourselves and other organisms and look at how we shape the world around us. As a subject it is practical and stimulating. It includes some of the traditional skills such as microscopy and dissection as well as skills used in ecological work like sample collection and classification. We also learn life skills such as taking blood pressure and pulse rate and why a balanced diet is important.

The GCSE course includes human biology, plant biology, ecology and environment, genetics, cell biology, microbiology and biotechnology and enables progression to A/S and A level. Students take higher tier GCSE, although the foundation tier is available if we feel that it is more suitable for an individual. Classes are never greater than 15 students.
