Our Students

We welcome students from all over the world each year and greatly enjoy the cultural diversity that this brings to our school.

In the past we have had students from Albania, China, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the Ukraine, Vietnam and many more countries.

Here is an example of just one student who has benefitted from his course at d'Overbroeck's ISC and Sixth Form.

Mikhail Kuzmin, Moscow

"The first step I made before moving to England was applying for the OPAL program. I felt that before I started my A-levels I needed a period when I would get in touch with English culture and the differences in education between my country and this one.

Quite frankly I can’t imagine a better way to have done that. OPAL provides a foreigner with all the information one needs about the country. Friendly and experienced staff REALLY are willing to help one achieve what he or she wants. And there is nothing as important for a person who just had to leave home than understanding and a correct approach. OPAL helps not only to excel in English abilities (which is the main aim at the point of arrival for a new student) but also allows one to try oneself in a range of subjects which shows what it’s like to study in the UK and gives one a head start for moving to a new level (IB or A levels).

A Director of Studies always looks after the students, which means one always gets feedback in time to make changes to the amount of work put in and the attitude one has. Plentiful activities help to fight culture shock and the blues of those days when you just really miss home. It was also a great thing that there are a lot of foreigners around, which makes you feel you are not alone and allows one to make a lot of friends.

In general I would really recommend d’Overbroeck’s over other English private schools because it is proudly different. It allows anyone to be what he or she wants to be, by considering its students as adults and having a corresponding attitude to the teaching process. This means that a lot in this college depends on self motivation and self discipline, which can be challenging but priceless in the perspective of coming university times. I personally think there could be no better preparation for university, as students from traditional private schools will in my opinion have difficulties in doing more on their own than d’Overbroeck’s students who will be used to this by the time it really matters. Alongside a lot of freedom, there is a system which insures no one is overwhelmed by these difficulties, with personal tutors assigned to each student, giving personalized feedback to students and their parents.

As a result of my 2 year education in d’Overbroeck’s I have received high AS marks and got an offer from a number of high ranked universities amongst which are Oxford and Bath. Now I am working towards my 4 A levels to meet my offers."

Mikhail achieved four GCSE's at grade A* and one at grade B. In the Sixth Form he achieved an IELTS Score of 8.5 and obtained A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry.

Mikhail is now studying Physiology at Oxford University
