Jewellery making10-14 years old

How do you like the idea of creating your own style? Being able to wear pieces of jewellery that you could never buy in a shop – because they're unique and handmade ... by you!

On our Jewellery making course, you'll have access to a mouthwatering array of materials from which to build your personal collection of jewellery – and you'll be taught all the skills and techniques you'll need to create accessories that will make all your friends jealous.

Who is the course for?

If you're aged between 10 and 14 and you're excited by the idea of making your own unique range of jewellery, this is the course for you!

You needn't have any previous experience of jewellery making, because we'll teach you everything you need to know.

How many participants will there be?

There will be a maximum of 12 participants on the course – which means that you'll be receiving lots of personal attention and guidance from Amy, the course teacher.

Who is the course taught by?

The course is taught by Amy Surman – a qualified jewellery teacher and maker, and owner of the Oxford Bead Shop. Amy has a BA (Hons) in Designed Metalwork and Jewellery, and is adept at employing an enormous range of techniques and materials. She has been teaching jewellery making since graduating in 2001.

Course Content

During the four days of the course, you will have the opportunity to work with everything from beads and wire to precious metal clay (PMC); from recycled household materials to copper. And you'll be using a variety of jewellery making techniques: knotting, silversmithing, cold connections and more.

Each day we will focus on specific materials and techniques, so you'll be building up a range of jewellery items and crafting skills. What's more, you'll leave the course with not only an enviable array of handmade jewellery, but also the ability to carry on making more on your own.

Equipment and materials

We will provide all the equipment and materials you need. While you're on the course, you will also be encouraged to hunt for and collect items that you can 'recycle' by turning them into imaginative new accessories as part of a body adornment project we'll be carrying out.

Exhibition of work

On the final evening of the course we will be holding an exhibition of the work that you've produced during the week, including a catwalk show that will feature the results of the recycled body adornment project. Your family and friends are encouraged to come along!
